Assignment: Head First HTML and CSS Chapters 13, 14, and the Appendix

Due date: October 4

Following the instructions in the text and using an approved plain-text editor, complete the exercises in Chapters 13 and 14, and read the Appendix in Head First HTML and CSS. Be sure to save your work to your USB flash drive. Also, remember to write in HTML5 code with the correct doctype, the <meta> element to set the character set to utf-8, etc. Be sure, as well, to check your work in the appropriate validators. We will submit the work and discuss it during next Wednesday's class.

Pay attention to the notes listed below as you're completing the chapter exercises, or you could significantly mess up the layouts the work the book is asking you to complete!

Chapter 14 notes

  • On pages 682–83, you don't have to do the Sharpen Your Pencil exercises. Do read through the material, though, because the next file you work with on the following page already has the table display markup included.
  • Starting on page 684, start doing your work from the styledform.html file located inside the starbuzz folder.
  • Complete the Brain Power exercise on page 691 using the styledform.html file.

Chapter 11 notes

In-class activities for August 30

Assignment: Head First HTML and CSS Chapters 1, 2, and 3

Due date: August 30 at the beginning of class

Following the instructions mentioned in class as well as the text, use one of the course-approved plain-text editors (see the left column) to complete the exercises in Chapters 1, 2, and 3 of the Head First HTML and CSS text.

To complete your exercises, always use the files I post (see below), not those posted on the Head First website. Be sure to save your work to your USB flash drive. We will submit the exercises and discuss them during next Wednesday's class. I will evaluate your submissions based on what the text asks you to complete, not on the answers at the end of the chapter, which sometimes are at odds with what the text asks you to do. For more information, see my instructions for working with the text.

In case you need it, I have posted instructions for extracting the contents of the .zip file.

I have also posted instructions for adding spell check to our approved editors.
